Shibazaki is finally able to contact his daughter Haruka, and asks her about the other potential uses of an atomic bomb outside of the physical mass obliteration of cities. He is trying to think of what kind of person Nine is, and how someone, who makes a point of not killing, would utilize the most deadly weapon in our current history. However it is also important to note that at this point, Shibazaki is “adopting” Nine’s mentality. It is his actions (via video) that have led to this mass panic. At the moment, Nine is indirectly running the show here.
#Zankyou no terror ending windows
One amusing thing that I noticed immediately was that the side of the building’s side windows spelled out a “9”. This will also be discussed later, because the creators certainly are not carelessly animating anything/”forgetting” about Twelve’s accident. Although, his later behavior/physical state are unusually back to normal. I think it can be assumed that Twelve’s collapse was a result of his crash rather than a sudden onset of drug-side-effect symptoms that have been absent previously in the series. Lisa, walking around in the crowd, eventually spots Twelve who collapses on the ground. It just goes to show how much Sphinx had planned this out in advance, and how they have been trying so hard to avoid killing even a single person. Once again, Nine (and Twelve) purposefully create a situation to reduce to amount of casualties from their final “bombing” to be virtually zero. With this, the potential danger of transportation related crashes (as a result of what the bomb ends up doing to be discussed later in this analysis) are minimized for when the explosion goes off.
As usual in a state of emergency, when people try to escape an area, the modes of transportation are clogged up/heavily congested and therefor shut down people have to resort to leaving on foot. After all Twelve, on such short notice, was able to figure out where Nine was and for a brief moment distract Five. With less than two hours left before the explosion, it is nearly impossible for the entire area will be able to evacuate at a far enough distance-but for a pair of terrorists who have made it a point in making sure they do not kill a single person, why give such a short margin of time to escape? Granted, this is now more or less the sole actions of Nine, but it can be safe to assume that Nine is following a pre-determined plan both he and Twelve came up with. The episode opens with the mass movement of Tokyo out of the area (at least the Kanto region), all trying to escape the now imminent explosion of the atomic bomb. And now, without further ado, the final episode analysis. I’ve received a plethora of messages ranging from the emotional extremes of resentment to joy-while all of our reactions may be different, we can all at least agree that the creators have done their job stirring some sort of emotion within us.
The story left just enough ambiguity to leave us wondering “what if?” but enough heartbreak to satisfy our angst needs for the next year or so (if not the rest of our lives).
